The Best Fish & Chips in Western Australia Award Winners 2019

13 Aug 2020

Pinjarra and Albany have been named as the place to find Western Australia’s best fish & chips, with two of their popular local eateries receiving The People’s Choice and Judge’s Choice awards for Best Fish and Chips at the WA Seafood Industry Awards 2019. Achieving 9,000 public votes, Pinjarra Fish and Chips was awarded The People’s Choice Fish and Chips Award (sponsored by Bendotti Exporters), while Albany’s Ocean and Paddock was recipient of the Judges’ Award (sponsored by Mareterram Fisheries), making it the 3rd year running that Ocean and Paddock have been recognised in the awards.

WA Fishing Industry Council (WAFIC) Chair, Dr Ron Edwards said both Pinjarra Fish and Chips and Ocean and Paddock had demonstrated excellence in consistently providing customers with quality seafood.

He said, “With vision, commitment and an abundance of passion, both Pinjarra Fish and Chips and Ocean and Paddock have grown into very popular outlets selling high quality Western Australian seafood.”

“The diversity of sustainable choices make it a tough call for the average fish and chips punter to pick a winner, because they know the best comes from the west and that goes for the Western Australia fishing industry as well,” Dr Edwards continued.

Located just south of Mandurah, Pinjarra Fish and Chips serves up classic beer-battered fish and chips alongside a gluten-free option to cater for those with gluten intolerances. For the more adventurous, they also offer battered mussels.

Ocean and Paddock in Albany offer an ever-changing Today’s Catch menu, focused around exclusively locally and sustainably sourced fresh fish. Their specialty buttermilk fried lobster burger is made using Abrolhos Island lobster.

These awards were presented as a part of the annual Western Australian Seafood Industry Awards, and were held at The Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle on 25 July.
