Food Security

COMMUNITIES | FOOD SECURITY

Food security is an important part of any community

Seafood is a key part of Western Australia’s food security.

We have seen first-hand through the COVID-19 crisis the importance of having a reliable supply of secure, sustainable and well-managed land and ocean-based food proteins to ensure we can feed our population through the good times and the tough times. The long-term management of food security is why it is so important to support local fisheries that support healthy oceans.

It’s not just about the big companies taking responsibility. We all have a role to play by doing simple things like reading labels to ensure we are buying local seafoods from socially responsible suppliers that source and manage their catch using sustainable fishing practices.

Buying local seafood supports local jobs and ensures we will have a safe and secure food supply chain. It also ensures we are supporting quality seafood production as well as ensuring sustainable supply for generations to come.
