Beachside Seafood Dining in Perth and the South-West

With over 10,000km of coastline and a population of seafood lovers, it’s no surprise that Western Australia is home to a burgeoning beachside seafood dining scene. From family style fish and chips to decadent seafood platters, you will have no problem finding the right spot to enjoy your favourite seafood meal and watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean.

Clancy’s Fish Bar, City Beach

With colourful boat-wood décor, towels and fun paraphernalia, alongside unparalleled coastal views, Clancy’s Fish Bar in City Beach, serves up WA seafood with one of the friendliest atmospheres you’ll find. The licensed restaurant opens for lunch at 11.30am and serves meals until late. It’s a place where you can drop in for a wine and oyster, have a pub-like seafood dish, or something a little fancier. On the menu, you will find local delicacies such as Shark Bay tiger prawns. If you’re looking for something a little different, try out the Brazilian ‘Moqueca style’ spicy seafood stew. Clancy’s Fish Bar can also be found in Fremantle and Canning Bridge.

Bathers Beach House, Fremantle

Bathers Beach House is the only restaurant in Western Australia where you can eat and drink on the beach. The chic restaurant offers upmarket outdoor and indoor dining with panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. Seafood lovers will enjoy a luxurious menu of seafood share plates, grazing boards and mains. Look out for the crispy barramundi with coconut and lemon sambal risotto and the grilled selection of local market fish. If you feel like treating yourself – order a plate of the natural oysters with a glass of chilled sparkling wine, and enjoy with your feet in the sand.

Bunker’s Beach House, Dunsborough

Tucked into the rugged dunes of Bunker Bay, Bunker’s Beach House offers modern Australian cuisine with a menu based around seasonal Western Australian seafood. With an outdoor deck located only 200m away from the water, the venue is perfect for a laid back lunch with a glass of wine in hand. The menu celebrates local Western Australian seafood favourites including Shark Bay scallops, Cockburn Sound mussels, Busselton octopus, Mandurah mullet and a daily selection of whole local market fish.

Cott & Co Fish Bar, Cottesloe

With Mediteranean style decor and views of the sunset over Cottesloe Beach, the restaurant, located inside the iconic Cottesloe Beach Hotel, offers an idyllic dining experience. The menu is based around a chef-sourced selection of fresh and local seafood, including beer battered Shark Bay whiting, Esperance sardines, Busselton whitebait and Exmouth tiger prawns. Make sure that you check the overhead chalkboard menu for the chef’s daily seafood specials.

Kailis Fishmarket Cafe, Fremantle

Located on Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour, Kailis Fishmarket Cafe is a classic seaside eatery, by one of Australia’s most regarded fishing families. The restaurant offers comfortable indoor booth seating and a large outdoor decked seating area that overlooks the busy harbour. Kailis process their fresh-caught seafood at a facility located inside the Harbour, enabling the kitchen access to fresh seafood. The fish and chips come with your own choice of fish, including local snapper, whiting and flathead. Look out for the creamy seafood chowder served inside a sourdough bread roll, and their fresh off the grill menu for those seeking more of a gourmet local seafood experience.

Joe’s Fish Shack, Fremantle

Joe’s Fish Shack is a Fremantle institution. The nautical themed restaurant offers licensed harbourside dining and casual takeaways. Speciality mains include West Australian caught whole crayfish locally caught chilli mussels. Takeaway fish and chips are served in sturdy paper trays and perfect to eat on a stroll around the harbour.

Bib and Tucker, North Fremantle

Elevated above Leighton Beach, Bib and Tucker offers modern Australian cuisine with sweeping views of North Fremantle’s coastline. Guided by a ‘love your locals’ ethos for sourcing seafood, the menu is based around seasonal Western Australian produce. In the sunny window seats you can dig into charcoal roasted Fremantle octopus and wood roasted Exmouth tiger prawns while you take in the view.
